The Story
"I have within me a golden box of stories - truths, gifts, and more - about who I am and my place in the world.  It waits only for me to engage my trickster who will use cleverness to secure this box and accidentally let loose all of my stories - enriching the entire world."
Zette

Born in Albany, New York, Zette discovered a love of story at an early age. Raised in Burton, Ohio on five acres of woods, Zette spent lots of time exploring woods, sliding down the frozen creek falls and diving into books... lots and lots of books. As a young woman, she began telling folktales from around the world, bringing joy to herself and her audiences.

Wherever she goes Zette Harbour creates a story ruckus.  Zette is a traditional storyteller, retreat leader and founder of the Pacific Storytelling Center.  She has shared folktales and stories for twenty years, bringing humorous and thrilling tales from around the world to people of all ages.

Zette works with story in workshops and combines folktales and archetypes to assist people in gaining insight into their own personal mythologies.  Zette helps people understand themselves through story.

Zette has taught storytelling workshops for adults and children through Cal Poly Extending Education and Cuesta College for Kids.  She leads seminars on the seeking and finding of Story Wisdom and has created programs for youth-at-risk and for such events as Women's History Day.

Her performances have been aired on National Public Radio's, The Story Tree and on KCBX FM 90.1 and KVEC AM 920.

Her self-produced, live, solo performance, Full Moon Stories & Beach Walk, was reviewed by the National Endowment for the Arts, September 9, 1995.

In addition to live performances and workshops, Zette created a storytelling CD series Story Harbour, the first volume of which features Zette performing six tales including stories from such places as Russia, Japan and West Africa.

Zette travels to perform, conduct workshops and facilitate retreats.  She is currently at work on a children's book with violist and illustrator, Andrew Duckles.

Zette lives in Los Osos, California with her orchestra conductor husband, Michael, and daughters, Brittany and Julia.

"Every culture has a rich reservoir of folklore that offers entertainment, inspiration and wisdom.  These tales do so much more than simply entertain.  They resonate with universal human desires and feelings.  We learn things here that we might not learn in any other way.

We ponder, we laugh, and we grow in our understanding of our world and who we are in it."
